JULIE PETERS LEWIS
I grew up loving literature, music, art and theater.
In addition to regular academics my electives were ceramics and art at La Canada High School ('74). I began studying leaded stained glass at Brand Studio in Glendale, CA with Barbara MacMillan in the 80's. I learned to design my own window patterns, cut glass, and build the window in lead. I studied ceramics at Pasadena City College ('00) with Phillip Cornelius and Jim Gonzales. I never wanted to be a potter but I really enjoyed learning to build large sculptural ceramic pieces. I then transferred to the California State University at Fullerton Glass Department to study with Don Ballwey and others till completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramic/Glass in 2006. I was fortunate to meet Patty and form a team with her and others to explore all the various ways to manipulate glass. Blowing glass from a furnace, casting solid glass sculpture, fusing and slumping into custom molds are all some of the forms I have experimented with.
My passion is creating large ceramic pieces and colorful fused, slumped and cast glass art.
